Easter sock bunny tutorial
Materials needed for this Easter bunny craft

- Unmatched socks
- Uncooked rice (around 1 cup per bunny)
- Rubber bands
- Black Sharpie Marker (or any black marker)
- Pretty Ribbon (Optional)
- Scissors
Instructions for the no sew sock bunny
Step 1. Take the sock and place it over a tall glass so its easier to pour the rice into.

Step 2 Poor the rice into the sock. I used a measuring pyrex cup to make it easier to pour, but you can use anything.

Step 3: Take the rubber band and tie the top close

Step 4: To make the head and body shape, take another rubber band and tie it between the head and the body.

Step 5: Use another rubber band and make the bunny tail.

Step 6: To make the ears, cut any excess sock so that there is a couple of inches for the ears. If you want floppy ears that flop down, then leave them a bit longer.
Once the excess is gone, cut the top portion down the middle.
Using a marker, draw on a bunny ear shape. Take your scissors and cut along the marker line. Once done, your bunny ears should stand up straight (or flop down if you want floppy ears)

Step 7: Use the Sharpie to draw the bunny eyes and nose. To make the eyes, simply color in two dots with the marker
To make the nose, draw an "x" shape. Super Easy!

Step 8: This part is optional but it really adds a nice decorative touch to your bunny craft. Cut a long enough piece of ribbon and tie a bow around the bunnies neck. I used both fabric and plastic ribbon. They both worked well, but I like the look of the fabric ribbon a bite more. You can also use bakers twine, instead of ribbon if you have some lying around.

Your done this bunny easter craft project!
Some extra tips for this bunny easter craft DIY
- To make smaller or bigger bunnies adjust the amount of rice used.
- Use bakers twine instead of the ribbon to make a bow tie around the bunny's neck
- To make sock bunny's out of black socks, use a white fabric paint or white glue ( that doesn't dry clear)
- Make different types of bunnies. Some with floppy ears that don't stick up, some with shorter ears, some with longer ears that stick up.
- Use different colors of socks or even patterned socks.
- Use kids or baby socks to make small bunnies
- To make these bunny easter craft to sell, use new socks.
- Glue on googly eyes for the eyes and a small pom pom for nose, with pipe cleaner whiskers.
- Use them as bunny decor for Easter in your home or in an Easter vignette
- Great idea for Easter craft activities for elderly
- Easy Easter Craft fair ideas - if your looking for an Easter craft to sell or for a fundraiser idea
- Fun Easter craft for adults, craft parties, gatherings, family events, etc..

This is amahzingggggg! Was thinking of something simple to teach the kids at church tomorrow with easy to source supplies and boom! This came, you are wonderful, makes me love crafts
Glad you liked this craft! It's a fun and easy craft project and I'm sure the kids will love it! 🙂
Tried this, it was amazing! what do you do if you have a holey sock though?
Glad you enjoyed this craft Emily! As for holey socks, you could either tie it close (with a rubber band or string), or try sewing it.
Thank you! That’s helpful-I have a lot of holey socks currently looking for a partner
He’s so chubby lol😝😜😜
Nice info and cute.
Could you please correct the misspellings of the word 'your' when you really mean you're (you + are)?
Thank you! And done on the grammar issues. Thank you for letting me know 🙂
Cheers,
Jasmine
Could you use dry beans as a filler? I have a lot on hand.
Hi Bridgett, Thank you for your question. And yes, you can absolutely use beans instead of rice! Infact there was another crafter who made these bunnies with dried beans and she posted pictures and you couldn't tell the difference! I say use whatever you already have at home! Gluck and enjoy making it 🙂 Hoppy Easter!!
Hi, I don not have any rice at hand, nor beans, so can I use something else? If so, What?
Hi Luana,
You can use uncooked lentils or small dried beans like chickpeas or lima beans for a more sturdy bunny. You can also try using cotton balls or tissue paper( like the kind in gift bags) that's been scrunched up. Those might not make a sturdy bunny but they would still work I think.
Cheers,
Jasmine
Hey, my head on the bunny is kinda.. awkward? I don’t stay in place and makes its ‘neck’ look long. Any advice?
P.S I loved the idea and everything else worked perfectly 💕
Hi Mia, one idea is to make sure you have enough rice in the head portion of the bunny before tying it with a rubber band. If you make the head a bit bigger it should stay in place. Hope that helps! Cheers!
This was a super fun activity for my kids while in quarantine. My 10-year-old really got into it by dressing up her bunnies with extra material we had lying around. Thank you for the great idea!
Glad you guys enjoyed it Lucretia! Love the idea of dressing it up!!
The question is tho, how did u cut the sock 😩 it’s so hard cutting it
Hi Baneen, using a sharp pair of scissors should make cutting the socks easier. Dull scissors paired with thick sock material can make it more challenging to cut. Hope that helps. Cheers!
I tried it and there were lots of little rabbit in the garden during this Easter ! Kids were amazed. Thanks !
Glad you enjoyed it Lisa! It's hard to stop at just one bunny!
So cute. Just an idea use girl's pony ties ( the fabric ones ) instead of elastics because they break down with time !!
Thanks
Excellent tip Ruth - thanks so much for sharing!!
Cheers,
Jasmine
These are so cute!! I just finish making them for my class!
Awesome to hear Rena! So glad to hear you enjoyed them with your class
Cheers,

Hi this craft is amazing I made two and they look so cute I did want to ask what else could you use instead of socks? if there is anything please let me know thank you so much and have a great day!
Hi CJ,
So glad you enjoyed making them! In terms of other items instead of socks, if you have any material laying around that's stretchy (old t shirts, etc..) and you don't mind sewing a bit, then that would be a good option. Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Jasmine

Hi CJ,
So glad you enjoyed this craft! In terms of what else you could use: opaque stockings ( just cut the bottom foot portion off, like socks), stretchy leggings ( you can sew a straight edge on the bottom so you can fill it). Basically anything that is a stretchy material: you can try to cut it and stitch it so you can poor rice into them to form the body of the bunny. Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Jasmine
Thanks sooooooooooo much! 🙂 😉
My pleasure! 🙂
Love the idea. Use zip ties instead of rubber bands.....those can break.
That's a great idea, thank you for sharing!
I made a simplified printable doc to put out at my baby shower craft table!

Are you using Children’s socks for the bunnies?
Hi Lisa,
The socks I used where adult sized ones, but you can also use children's socks to create smaller bunnies 🙂 Enjoy!
Thank you,
Jasmine
Question... can I use Polyfil Stuffing instead of rice. I want to make them as a child's toy to sell at my shop booth. I'm very leery about using rice as it can pose a choking hazard for small children and infants. Love the ideas . I will be making these soon.
Hi Heather,
Great question! Yes, using polyfil stuffing should be just fine. All the best with the shop booth- very exciting!
Cheers,
Jasmine
Hi thankyou for putting this brilliant craft online , I have an Easter fair coming up soon and am definitely going to try and make a few of these .
You are so welcome Hayley, so glad you'll be making these bunnies! Gluck at your Easter fair 🙂
Cheers,
Jasmine
I would use something that would not invite bugs if stored abd would add a pompom for a tail
Great tip and point Karen!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Cheers,
Jasmine
What could you use other than rice? If we ship these overseas, we can’t have food items in them.
Thank you. They’re absolutely adorable.
Hey Kathy,
Good question!! I've heard people using cotton balls, cotton batting. You could also use fabric scraps (like a cut up old t-shirt), even crumpled up old newspaper/soft paper would work. Hope that helps 🙂
Cheers,
Jasmine
